Studio Update
If anyone has been wondering where I’ve been lately, I’ve been working hard on the new Elemint album, Brain Food. He flew into town back in August to record nonstop for one intense week. We finished the tracking and rough mixes just before he left. He went on to Indiana where he recorded a few more songs as well as some trumpet parts for the opening track, Camouflaged Reflection. Just before mixing was planned to begin, we got hit with a hurricane and power was out for a week. As soon as it was back I was mixing. We sent tracks back and forth using Dropbox(which I highly recommend) and the mixing was done a few days before the deadline. After hearing the songs so much I didn’t feel it would be in our best interest to make any radical changes in mastering so I did a quick and basic master(not to mention the fact that we only had a few days). I think it turned out pretty good, although I would have liked to have been able to take more time along the way to let my ears rest so I could hear it fresh. Sometimes you gotta work on through. Since that’s done I’m ready to get back on some of my other projects. Down with the Sun, the EP by Jean-Baptiste is almost finished, most of the mixing is pretty much done and we just need drums for one song and a few other parts here and there. It’s set to release December 22nd, on the winter solstice.
Also set to release by Christmas is an album by Certain Folk, this one needs a little more work than Down with the Sun, but we should be able to get it done.
If I’m not too crazy busy, I’m hoping to have the next Octopus Drummer album out by the end of the year, it’s going to be 8 tracks and will play as seamlessly on shuffle as it will front to back, so look forward to that.
Aside from that I have a few sessions and photo-shoots booked and am looking to book more if anyone wants to get in the studio.
Some good news for RVA studios, Aaron got a pretty healthy grant last night to fix it up and get some new gear, I’m excited to see what he does to the place.
